Do you still have dial up internet?

Fewer and fewer people nowadays still access the internet through dialup, but if you do, remember these important points:

• Modern systems such as Windows XP, Windows 7 or Vista require downloads of updates for everything: Windows itself, antivirus, antispyware etc. and dialup, being 50-100 times slower, just isn’t up to the job. You will be missing important updates, and could present yourself with a security risk in doing so.
• Because dialup is directly connected to the internet, you miss the important security advantages of having a router such as their built in firewalls. Using dialup is actually more insecure.
• Broadband is generally cheaper than dialup  - packages start from around £5 per month (bundled with a phone call package), and some broadband-only packages cost £10 or £15 per month.  There are even some packages which come "free" if you take various other phone, mobile or TV packages.

You might even be thinking that you don’t need broadband because you don’t use it very much, but consider how much more you would be using it if you weren’t forced to go and have a cup of tea every time you clicked on something!
