Recent problems fixed by AAH Computer Services

A machine recently in our workshop had been rebooting itself every few minutes. We gave it a thorough dust service, cleaned out the processor cooling fins and replaced the thermal paste that helps the processor transfer heat to the cooling system. Result: A PC the customer was sure was on its last legs now works faultlessly - total cost £40

1. A customer in Romford called to say she was getting several messages about viruses on her computer from an antivirus she didn't even know she had. Using our remote support system, we got onto her machine, identified it as a "rogue" antivirus and because she had caught it just as it happened and contacted us right away, we removed it within 25 minutes. 

A customer in Hutton called to say she was unable to get on the internet at all - internet explorer wasn't even starting. It turned out that the extra security system her bank had advised her to download from their site was not working properly and had malfunctioned, causing internet explorer to stop. We identified the source of the problem and fixed this for just £60.

1. We collected a PC from a customer whose cooling fan was making a very loud noise. It turned out that another fan had seized, and the main cooling fan was working doubly hard! Despite it being a custom design fan, we obtained a replacement and fitted it within 48 hours

A customer in Billericay wasn’t sure if a wireless router would work in their house - so we tested various positions for the router and found an ideal location.

A business customer in Roxwell called with PC that wouldn’t let them click on anything. We fixed the problem within two hours, finding a rogue program that had malfunctioned.

1. A customer in Aveley had an internet explorer 8 problem where none of the icons worked in the toolbars (including favourites). We couldn’t uninstall IE8 because some system files were missing and although we appeared to be able to reinstall it, it still didn’t work. We tackled this problem using our remote support tool by trying various methods to uninstall internet explorer 8.  Eventually we managed to get it to a state where Internet Explorer 8 could be reinstalled properly. Job done in about an hour and the customer was absolutely delighted!

A customer in Brentwood called to say her daughter’s PC wouldn’t work at all and kept saying it had a virus. It turned out (as usual) that the message saying she had the virus was in fact the virus itself. We picked it up and returned it the same day, clean of viruses (we found over 800 infected files!) for £85 - our new fixed cost virus removal service

1. A customer in Bowers Gifford has a non-starting PC that they’d taken to PC World twice - and both times returned to them with the staff there saying no fault was detected. Within a minute of us running our diagnostic tools, we diagnosed a fault with the memory. We replaced the memory and reinstalled Windows, as the hard disk had become too corrupted to fix.

A customer in Cranham, Upminster, called to get his cracked laptop screen replaced - we did this within a week - for £120 all-in.

1. A customer in Chelmsford had a hard disk failure on her main PC. We came within the hour and connected her backup drive to her laptop. Luckily, because she’d been running her backups exactly as we had set them up a year previously, she was able to get straight back into her work immediately. We took the PC away, reinstalled windows and replaced the hard disk, and returned her machine and re-setup the backups within 2 days.

A customer in Rayleigh had a computer that just wouldn’t do anything - no internet, no sound, couldn’t run any programs, couldn’t uninstall anything - that sort of thing. We fixed a problem in Windows Vista where all the internal services had stopped working and fixed his faulty antivirus too. Total cost: £45.

1. We had an urgent callout from someone in Billericay who needed to urgently print her thesis. Her Apple iMac wasn’t connecting to the internet, and her wireless printer had stopped working. We corrected the settings on her router, got the printer working and got the iMac back on the internet - all within half an hour (£30)!

A customer in Romford needed a used computer in a hurry - we had one ready next day - for just £125!

1. A customer in Ingatestone rang in with a problem on a Saturday morning - his Vista PC was saying "could not connect to a windows service". We rang back later in the day with a solution. Open the command prompt in Administrator mode and type "netsh winsock reset catalog". It worked and our customer was delighted to be able to carry on with his work over the weekend.

A fish and chip shop in upminster wanted to be able to view its CCTV system over the internet but had been told the router his Internet Service Provider had supplied couldn’t do that, so would need to be replaced and that he needed a fixed IP address which the provider wanted to charge extra for. We solved the problem without replacing the router and without having to pay for a fixed address and the total bill was £45.

1. A customer in Hutton had very poor broadband speeds and problems with wireless connectivity. Our broadband wiring engineer called and did a survey of the wiring. By rewiring the internal telephone cabling, using an advanced adsl filter he managed to improve the broadband speed from under 1Mb to over 4 Mb. We also used an advanced long range wireless router and range extenders to get rock solid wireless coverage to every room in the house.

A customer in Wickford couldn’t get online with her new broadband provider, and complained of her PC running slowly. We tidied up her computer, got rid of unnecessary programs trying to start with Windows, got her online with a new email address and fitted some extra memory to give her PC a new lease of life! The whole callout took 45 minutes and cost just £65 including the memory.

1. A customer in Basildon had a very old computer that had popups telling him that the computer was full of viruses - of course the popups were harmful in themselves. Despite the computer being about 9 years old, we managed to clean it up within 2 hours

A customer with a Windows Vista PC in Billericay couldn’t log in to his computer as himself - we recreated his user account and ensured all his data was copied within an hour and a half.

• A customer in Hutton with a troublesome internet connection called to ask for help - we installed a router to replace her old modem and the whole thing cost just £60 including installation. She was very pleased as she had already spent a good few hours on the phone to a call centre about her problem and had got nowhere.

Customer in Billericay bought a router from a large national computer shop, and they came and installed it for her. The customer was less than pleased when one of their computers suddenly stopped sending mail. The company that set up their router didn’t want to help and told her to call the phone company! The customer called us, and we were round within half and hour, and not only fixed the problem, but removed a lot of spyware, got their printer running and cleaned up their new laptop, which was full of manufacturer-installed adverts etc.

1. Customer in Basildon had bought a new laptop and couldn’t work out how to connect to Virgin Media / Telewest with a wireless router. We did a complete setup of his machine and got his programs working the way he wanted

A long-standing business customer in Chelmsford had an old PC that just wouldn’t start. We turned up the day they called and installed a brand new Maxdata PC, and integrated the machine onto their network, solving many networking problems along the way.

1. We set up a wireless network for a customer in Billericay including their Macintosh (Apple iMac) computer that needed special wireless hardware to run.

We set up a wireless network, including VOIP (voice-over-IP) for a customer in Billericay. Using VOIP, she pays about 7% of the charges BT would have charged her (even with their VOIP service) for calling the Middle East

1. As a cost-saving exercise for a customer in Chelmsford, we moved their broadband to another provider, and by using VOIP, they were able to cancel their second business phone line with BT. The cost saving amounted to £240 per year.

Customer in Basildon had a problem with not being able to print to their wireless printer - we fixed this and updated their antivirus in just over an hour

1. Customer in Vange had a problem with Norton Antivirus, which refused to scan and slowed down her PC. She had been trying to remove Norton for several days without success. We totally wiped Norton off the computer, installed Avast Antivirus (a free download) and also installed more memory to help her computer run faster, all in a one hour callout. Along the way, we tidied up various other settings. The total charge was under £90.

A customer in chelmsofrd runs a business rom a log cabin at the bottom of a very long garden. The broadband had been directly supplied to the log cabin meaning that if he wanted broadbandin the house he was going to have to pay an extra broadband fee every month to have two broadband lines when in reality he only needed one. We use our extensibve knowledge of wirless networks and in particular raido frequency technology to solve his connundrum. we changed his router for one better suited to the application. Used a high gain dish type antenna to beam the wifi signal to his house (we also recalibrated the router to ensure it stayed within the UK law) and high gain receiving and trasmittimg antennas on a wireless repeater.  He now has wireless access from both the cabin and the house but is only paying one broadband fee.

Customer in Southend was having problems with their computer not starting properly - it would reset before the Windows desktop should have appeared. We identified faulty memory, and replaced it, and checked the computer was operating properly. All done within 90 minutes.

1. A customer in Benfleet was also having problems with their computer not starting up properly - it would reset before getting to the Windows desktop. In this case, the problem was vast amounts of adware, spyware and viruses which had loaded themselves onto the computer after a security package installed by their internet service provider had stopped working. We cleared the spyware, updated Windows and put new security software on.

A customer in Billericay had a computer with continual popups and very slow operation. This was found to be due to faulty security software and no firewall being intalled. We cleaned up the machine and it now runs faster and the customer has internet access again. In cases like this, it can be quite time consuming to "coax" the viruses and spyware to go away, and it took over 3 hours.

1. We delivered and installed a new PC to a customer in Ongar. They had an old computer with thousands of personal photographs that needed copying over. We set up the new PC and successfully copied the files and showed the customer how to use Google Picasa to view and edit their photos, all within two hours. The cost of the PC was £465 (with a 19" flat panel display) and the cost of the 2-hour install was £113, so the customer was able to enjoy their new PC, including a full setup, installation and delivery service for under £600.

One of our long-standing customers had bought their son a new laptop, and needed it set up and installed on their network - this was done within an hour and now their son can safely use the internet as we had installed parental control software.

1. Customer in Billericay needed a wireless network installed for three laptops and a desktop - already had all the equipment but wasn’t sure how to start. AAH set up the network and resolved a problem the laptops all having incorrect wireless network settings

Customer in Chigwell had a problem with certain web pages not being accessible, and the broadband occasionally disconnecting - AAH identified two separate problems with their router’s setup and fixed this within an hour.

1. AAH delivered and installed a new PC to a customer near Chelmsford, copied over old files and set up wireless network. We also gave advice on how the customer could save about £40 a month by getting rid of unneeded phone lines, moving their broadband to a different provider and getting a fax-to-email number.

AAH Performed a cleanup on a PC for a customer in Basildon - she wasn’t sure if the machine was clean or not, but after an initial scan, over a dozen spyware items had been found and removed. The machine was updated and antivirus software installed

1. AAH Delivered and installed a new PC for a customer with an old Windows 98 PC which just would not do what they wanted any more. All old files, emails, favourites and the address book were copied over, and software reinstalled for the original disks.

Customer in Billericay had a problem getting email on their Palm organiser - AAH resolved this within an hour.

1. Customer in Basildon had a problem synchronising their Pocket PC with their main PC - AAH recommended a wipe and reinstall, which was turned around in less than 72 hours.

Customer wasn’t sure how to set up their new broadband connection - they had done most of the work, and AAH finished the job and showed them how to use it
